In this post, we’ll take a closer look at some of the most impressive sock-related world records, revealing how something as simple as a sock can make a lasting impact.
World’s most expensive socks: The title of the world's most expensive socks is often associated with Harry's of London and their Cervelt socks, priced at approximately $1,500 per pair. These socks are made from Cervelt, a rare fibre sourced from New Zealand red deer, known for its unmatched softness and durability.
Other notable luxury brands like Brunello Cucinelli and Loro Piana also produce highly priced socks made from premium materials such as cashmere and vicuña, but they fall short of the Cervelt socks' extraordinary price tag.
World’s largest sock: A sock from Project Undercover in Rhode Island holds the Guinness World Record for the world’s largest sock with 32 feet in height. This was recorded in 2011. The sock was cream and brown in colour. It consisted of approximately 183 metres of cotton material and required 12,802 metres of cotton thread to create.
Most Socks Donated in 24 Hours: This record was achieved by Bombas and Joyful Heart Foundation in New York City on April 29, 2018. A total of 33,000 pairs of socks were donated to various charities.
World’s largest sock puppet: Jody Lewis spent a week making the world’s largest sock puppet, at 10ft and 5.59 inches tall. This sock puppet, or sock monkey, was made out of calf-length socks. The maker used 66 socks to make this puppet by cutting the socks and stitching them together. The massive puppet weighs approximately 16 kilograms (35 pounds) and is filled with hollow fibre stuffing. This remarkable creation surpassed the previous record set by a smaller sock monkey. Epic work and dedication!!!
Fastest Time to Sort 100 Pairs of Socks: Marawa Ibrahim set this record in May 2020, sorting 100 pairs of socks in 3 minutes and 6.71 seconds during a live-streamed event.
Smallest hand-woven sock: The tiniest hand-woven socks were made by Ah Lam from China. The dimensions of these socks were only 2mm x 7.5mm. They are not just a plain coloured sock, but also patterned beautifully.
Most socks put on one foot in one minute: Pavol Duroik broke the record for the most socks put on one foot in one minute at 51 socks! Can you beat that?
Largest Collection of Socks: The largest sock collection belongs to Stephen Wright from England, who owns more than 2,500 pairs of unique socks, curated over decades. The tallest stack of socks was built by Acharya Vikramaditya in India in 2021, measuring an incredible 6.01 meters (19 feet 8.6 inches) .
